August 18 – 19, 2018
Saturday and Sunday 10 – 5 pm
Cost: $270.00 (price includes a $35 materials fee)
Instructor: Chad Alice Hagen
Description: This weekend workshop will introduce two wonderful bookbinding techniques – Gary Frost’s Sewn Boards and the Perfect Binding with the bonus – both covers will incorporate textiles.
The sewn boards binding is a favorite of sketching artists and journalists because the pages open flat thanks to the book structure, the beautiful french link binding and the clever spine cover. Our second book is a no-sew binding with a removable fabric cover and tea stained and crunched text paper (which gives an historical look yet is fully functional).
Both of these bindings lend themselves to endless variations in dimension, paper choice and use which makes them good candidates to add to your library for beginning or advanced bookmakers.
Students should bring to the class:
- Sharp sewing scissors (we will be using scissors for both paper and cloth)
- FABRIC – Sewn Boards sketchbook– two pieces 10” x 10” minimum. and for the Perfect bound notebook– one piece 15” x 15”minimum
Fabric should be medium quilt weight fabric – a fat quarter will be more than enough for (one) book
(We will cut to size in class and the instructor will be bringing a large box of extra fabric to share.)
