Description: Learn the secrets of the Secret Belgian Binding (also known as the Criss-Cross Binding) while creating a beautiful hardcover journal. This book structure has a primary and secondary sewing that results in a distinctive thread pattern on both the cover and spine of the book. It has the appearance of a Japanese Stab Binding, but opens fully flat thus making it a favorite for artists and writers alike. This is a terrific, versatile structure for all bookbinders – join us as we uncover the secrets of the Secret Belgian Binding.
Students should bring to the class:
- Basic bookbinding tool kit – metal ruler, cutting mat, Xacto knife/blades, scissors, mechanical pencil, awl, bonefolder, Japanese screw punch (if you have one)
- Decorative paper for covers and optional end sheets
