Chad Alice Hagen

Chad Alice Hagen has spent most of her life in the study and practice of the textile arts, focusing on resist dyeing of hand felted wool. She has received her BA and MS degrees from University of Wisconsin and MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art.  Her work has been published on the covers of Surface Design Journal, Shuttle, Spindle & Dyepot, and Fiberarts magazines, included in numerous books including Yoshiko Wada’s  Memory on Cloth : Shibori Now.  She has written three books on feltmaking- Weekend Crafter: Feltmaking;  Fabulous Felt Hats; and Fabulous Felted Scarves all published by Lark Books and is currently working on a book about resist dyeing on wool. 

Chad Alice has taught textile workshops for over 40 years throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and at her home studio in West Asheville, NC.

Around 2002, workshops with master book binder Daniel Essig gave her the inspiration to apply her love and knowledge of textiles to her bookbinding exploration using cloth, handmade or rescued as the book cover.
