From December 4, 2013 to January 4, 2014, Asheville BookWorks, 428 1/2 Haywood Road in West Asheville, is hosting a Holiday Pop-Up Shop. A festive opening reception will take place from 1–5 p.m. on December 7, 2013. The shop will feature the art and craftwork of local printmakers, letterpress printers, and bookbinders.

Here you’ll find artists’ books, journals, wearable art, bookish jewelry, printed T-shirts, and work aprons, among other items. There will also be a broad selection of hand-printed and letterpress items including broadsides and original prints, cards, and zines. Items will be offered in all price points, with many under $50.

While the Pop-Up Shop is not a juried exhibition, consignors are local and most are members of the Book and Print Arts Collective, which meets at BookWorks every other month.

“Inviting the public to see and purchase artwork in book and print also raises awareness of these art forms,” says Laura Ladendorf. Gift certificates can also be used year-round for studio classes in letterpress, bookbinding, and printmaking.

Since 2004, Asheville BookWorks has developed a national reputation as a fine book arts and print facility through classes, exhibits, lectures, and events. BookWorks provides space, equipment and technical support for artistic exploration, collaboration and the sharing of knowledge.
